Trainee Analyst - Operational Risk

What is Operational Risk? Risk management is an essential control function in any financial institution, and is involved in all areas of the business. Operational Risk (OR) is concerned with avoiding losses arising through systems, policies and procedures. In Daiwa, it also includes responsibility for the security of information, and our ability to continue our business in the event of any serious disruption or disaster that we may face. 
What is the role? As a trainee Operational Risk Analyst you will gain exposure to all related activities such as risk event capture, analysis and reporting, Key Risk Indicator analysis, and Risk & Control Self-Assessment. In addition, this role will incorporate responsibilities in respect of the Information Security team and Business Continuity functions which will involve conducting risk, threat and vulnerability assessments on the firm and its systems, conducting user and access reviews and reviewing event logs whilst investigating irregular activities. As part of Daiwa’s key second line of defence you will very quickly play an important part in helping to protect Daiwa’s commercial activities and with training, you will be presented with opportunities to influence decision making at all levels. 
How will it
suit me?
You will be part of a well-established and respected team, covering a broad scope of OR activities, business lines and products whilst also covering a variety of support functions. It will bring you in contact with multiple people across the firm including the senior management team, where in time; you will be expected to interact with management and represent the Risk function with confidence.  You will need to possess a methodical and inquisitive mind, with a strong ability to prioritise. As a member of the OR team you should enjoy collaborating and engaging with people at all levels.
What do you expect from me? We would like you to have demonstrable abilities to analyse data with a strong ability to communicate (both written and oral). With regular opportunities to liaise with senior management and the opportunity to influence decision making across the business, we expect you to be a confident person, who works well in a team and has strong interpersonal skills.
This role is diversified and requires a strong attention to detail, organisation and an ability to prioritise under pressure.
And what qualifications do I need? We will consider any degree having regard for the above requirements, however it is likely that you will have, or be predicted to have, a 2:1 or above in Economics, Statistics, Accountancy, Business Studies, or any Risk related subject. If you are successful, we will support you to study for a relevant professional qualification.
