Trainee – Markets & Trading Analyst

What is Markets & Trading Control? Markets and Trading Control is an essential function that is primarily concerned with the design and implementation of Daiwa’s trading controls and the subsequent monitoring and reporting on the operating effectiveness of those controls. It covers all areas of Daiwa’s business incorporating Fixed Income, Equities, Convertible Bonds and Origination activities, and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer. This function helps ensure that Daiwa maintains the highest standards of market conduct by promoting a strong control and compliance culture.
What is the role? This role directly supports the Markets and Trading Chief Operating Officer and Business Managers in compiling, analysing and presenting management information to key stakeholders, assisting with front office related tasks and working on special projects relating to the enhancement of risks and controls within the business. The role will provide great opportunities to interact with people across all divisions of Daiwa including Front Office trading, Finance, Technology, Operations, and Compliance etc. and will have visibility across all businesses within Markets and Trading.  This is an ideal role for a graduate looking for hands-on experience with the front office.
How will
it suit me?
You will be part of a newly established team with a wide scope that encompasses all areas of Daiwa’s business activities. With high visibility and exposure to front office, you need to be comfortable and confident in your ability to build new relationships quickly in a fast paced environment. You should be prepared to prioritise and work against deadlines, whilst taking pride in maintaining a high standard of personal and professional behaviour. It will suit a person with a broad interest in the workings of the financial markets. 
What do you expect from me? You will need to be a person who is analytical, logical and creative with excellent problem-solving skills. We expect you to be collaborative and be able to work effectively both as part of a team and individually. You should be happy to take accountability and have excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate clearly (both written and orally). We need you to possess advanced Microsoft skills, and have the confidence to interact with colleagues at all levels up to and including senior management within the firm. 
And what qualifications do I need? We are willing to consider any relevant upper second or above degree having regard for the above; however it is advantageous that you will have studied finance or financial markets as part of your degree course.  If you are successful, we will support you to study for a CISI or other appropriate professional qualification.
