Technology Trainee – Back Office Developer

What is Reference Data? The Technology Division is an essential function within DCME, forming a significant proportion of our total workforce. The Reference Data team sit within the European Applications Department, where developers support and enhance the firm’s strategic static data repository. The Back Office Development team is responsible for a number of Oracle Financial Applications and internally developed reporting solutions. These applications cover strategic functions within Finance, Product Control and Regulatory Reporting. 
What is the role? As a trainee you will join a team that is responsible for the support, maintenance and enhancement of the businesses reporting, regulatory and finance technology solutions. You will immediately have an important role to play, applying strong database development skills to develop and debug back office solutions. You will also participate in the “business as usual” programme to ensure fixes, upgrades and enhancements to the systems are delivered in a controlled and timely manner. Providing first and second-line support as part of the Reference data team whilst also providing technical input towards the successful delivery of strategic projects will form a key part of your role with us.  Opportunities to collaborate with other internal technology teams will also be available as you will work to ensure that database, server, network and shared storage are understood and performance is optimised across the business.

A key aspect of this position is the opportunity to work as a solution developer to deliver functionalities where appropriate therefore, a passion to problem solve partnered with a raw intellectual capability, is a must. This role offers the opportunity for continuous interaction with the business therefore; a genuine interest in finance with the desire to work closely with the business is useful. There will be technical challenges too, and you should be willing to work flexibly at times to ensure deadlines are met. You should also enjoy problem solving and be able to think laterally to formulate a solution.  
What do you expect from me? We expect that you will be confident in both database and SQL development. Experience using SQL databases and writing a SQL statement to investigate and/or resolve issues is essential for this role along with a sound understanding of computer science fundamentals. We are looking for a trainee who is an inquisitive self-starter and who with help, is keen to drive initiatives to completion. A good understanding and/or experience with Inferno, Moody’s Ray, Active Batch, and reporting is advantageous but not essential. Exposure to additional development areas such as SSRS/SSAS/SSIS, Java, Shell scripting, VBA, MS Access is also useful but not essential.
You will need to demonstrate that you are a team player, and have the ability to communicate effectively with a real enthusiasm for technology.
And what qualifications do I need? We will consider a minimum of a 2:1 in any relevant degree that involves a strong computer science bias. If you are successful, we will support you to study for a relevant professional qualification.
