Strategy

The Derivatives Division’s strategy for commercial expansion is focused on Asian clients and business flows.  The focus on Asia is part of the firm’s overall strategy to expand its business operations in the Asian region, in the area of investment banking, brokerage and structured products.

The success of this development will rely on several key factors which are the pillars of Daiwa Capital Markets’ strategy.
• A strong platform providing high quality in trading and execution
• An emphasis on our product structuring strengths
• An Equity / FICC multi-product approach in marketing clients and structuring products, which is important for certain clients who require combined coverage
• Building a strong local salesforce to access end-clients directly or sell to local product distributors for on-selling within their network.

Daiwa’s experience as a leading provider of structured products to retail and institutional investors in Japan, where it has an unparalleled track record, is directly applicable to certain marketing scenarios in Asia.  In particular, Daiwa Capital Markets has been a key product provider to its retail sister company Daiwa Securities, which comprises of a network of approximately 140 retail branches throughout Japan, and where retail customers purchase a wide range of products from simple cash equity to bonds, vanilla index-linked structured products and complex exotic products linked to interest rate, foreign exchange, equity, credit and hybrid markets.
